Healthcare IT News to honor Tramuto for his innovative work at Physicians Interactive and Health eVillages
Marlborough, MA – (February 28, 2013) – Physicians Interactive (PI), the leading provider of online, point of care and mobile resources and solutions for clinicians, announced today that CEO and Vice Chairman Donato Tramuto will receive the H.I.T. Men & Women award at the 2013 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual event for his innovative leadership in helping Physicians Interactive and Health eVillages advance the use of healthcare technology in ways that better connect life science companies and healthcare professionals, while also saving lives and empowering clinicians to raise the quality of care in challenged global regions.
Tramuto will receive the Innovators Category award during a ceremony at the J.W. Marriott in New Orleans on March 4.
“The H.I.T. Men & Women award winners, determined by Healthcare IT News readers, are game changers in the field of healthcare information technology,” said Danielle Hartley, publisher of Healthcare IT News. “We are pleased to honor Donato Tramuto of Physicians Interactive for his innovative and influential work over the past 30 years in the healthcare industry, and especially for his work with the Health eVillages global mobile health program. He has had a tremendous impact not only on our industry here in the U.S., but on delivering quality patient care to some of the most remote regions in the world.”
As the CEO and Vice Chairman of Physicians Interactive, Tramuto has led the company’s transformation into a leading healthcare provider resource for medical information, medication sampling, patient benefits and mobile decision support. Under Tramuto’s stewardship, Physicians Interactive has established itself as a market leader in helping life sciences companies create greater value and relevance with healthcare professionals in their workflow. This has helped PI build a network of more than two million healthcare users, including more than 900,000 physicians, nurses and allied health professionals in the United States. The innovation continues in 2013 with the launch of OMNIO®, a new iPad medical app, which is redefining the way healthcare providers leverage mobile clinical decision support, and with PI’s Toolkit™, a pioneering platform that helps life sciences companies interact with electronic health records (EHR) providers to help practitioners improve patient adherence and access to medication cost savings.
“I sincerely want to thank Healthcare IT News for the honor and congratulate all the nominees and winners on their achievements. We are tremendously proud of the innovations that have occurred in digital and mobile resource solutions during my time at Physicians Interactive,” said Tramuto. “Our team is constantly seeking to bridge the information gap between life sciences companies and clinicians in ways that raise the quality of care for patients, wherever they are being treated. Through these wonderful web, mobile, and electronic health record based-resources, clinicians today are more thoroughly informed than ever, and they are better able to treat patients quickly and effectively at the point of care.”
In 2011, Tramuto and Physicians Interactive created Health eVillages to provide state-of-the-art mobile health technology, including medical reference and clinical decision support resources, to medical professionals in the most challenging clinical environments around the world. Since then, Health eVillages has had a tremendous impact helping clinicians deliver safe and efficient care to patients in underserved areas in Africa, China, Haiti and rural Louisiana. In 2013, the program is being expanded to Central and South America through a partnership with Project HOPE, which conducts humanitarian assistance programs in more than 35 countries. Health eVillages provides handheld devices, such as smartphones, iPod Touches and iPads, preloaded with specialized medical reference content and clinical decision support tools powered by Skyscape to clinicians in those underserved areas.
Tramuto is also the Chairman and founder of the Tramuto Foundation, a non-profit organization that he created in 2001 to help disadvantaged youth reach their educational goals. He also serves on several executive leadership boards: the Duke University Fuqua Health Sector Advisory Board, the Boston University School of Public Health Dean’s Advisory Board, the Regis College Board of Trustees, the Physicians Interactive Board of Directors, and the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights Europe Board.
